There are 46 neck muscles (23 on each side) that connect the head to the neck and the head-neck to the shoulder girdle and the upper part of the spine. Guided by the central and peripheral nervous system, these muscles work together in harmony to secure coordinated movements of the neck. The Butterfly Method detects abnormalities in the rhythms of diverse movements in the neck – identifying faulty coordination which puts abnormal strain on the neck and spine and causes chronic pain.
The patient is asked to trace incrementally difficult movement patterns.
The size of the movement path can be diminished or enlarged — resulting in smaller or larger ranges of movement.
Velocity, quadrant, and size of butterfly can be changed — offering multiple variables to assess and score movement and performance.
The Butterfly method is patented in Europe, Australia, and the US and is pending approval in Canada. NeckCare’s solutions have been clinically validated by more than 15 years of research studies, involving over 1,000 patients, conducted at research centers such as University of Iceland, Reykjavik University and University of Queensland. NeckCare researchers have published over 20 peer reviewed scientific journal papers based on the data collected from the Butterfly test that inform and support ongoing advances in the assessment and treatment of the neck pain. Ongoing research is presently being conducted at the University of Newcastle, Australia; and at Department of Health Sciences, Lulea University of Technology, Lulea, Sweden.

The Neck Stabilizer interacts with the NeckSmart web services and provides important diagnostic data of potential injuries to the cervical spine and directly aids in the rehabilitation process either at the healthcare clinic or at the preferred patient location.
The NecClassifier is a cloud based diagnostic AI tool that enables pattern detection of exaggerated neck movements.
The NeckClassifier is based on multi-dimensional data and suite of methods fused together using Neural Network. The state of the art classifier enables the detection of exaggerated movement relating to cervical injuries caused by an abrupt jerking motion of the head enabling the classification of individuals with regard to Whiplash Associated Disorders (WAD) related symptoms.
The NeckClassifier diagnostic output is presented in a user-friendly objective reports.
